Salou

Hey there, welcome to our Salou story! It’s become a tradition for us to head to this sunny paradise every year since our honeymoon over two decades ago. Our family of seven couldn’t resist the call of Salou even during Christmas in 2023. Salou never disappoints, from building sandcastles with the little ones to diving into thrilling water sports. And spending New Year’s there? Pure magic!

We visited Salou in May of 2023, where I decided I wanted to bring my family back at Christmas time to make some magical memories. On the morning of the 26th of December, my kids woke up super excited for the vacation ahead, we set off for Dublin airport at 2pm, for our flight later that afternoon. We flew into Barcelona airport (however, Reus during the summer is the closer- yet more expensive airport). As we are a family of 7, we decided to get a private transfer from the airport to bring us to our first destination, the beautiful ‘Sol Costa Daurada’ hotel in Salou. This drive took about an hour and we arrived in the hotel coming on 8pm.

This hotel was beautiful and worked perfectly for our family size, we booked 3 rooms. One for my three boys, one for my two girls and the last was for myself and my husband. The hotel ensured that all three rooms were beside each other so we could get to any of the kids if needed. (My eldest son is 24, and my eldest daughter is 22). We booked half board in the hotel, so could access the buffet at breakfast and dinner which offered a variety of food, and even my picky eaters could find a variety of food they enjoyed.

Old town Salou

Old Town Salou is like stepping into a storybook! Picture winding cobblestone streets lined with quaint shops and cozy cafes. It’s the kind of place where time seems to slow down, and every corner holds a new discovery. Whether you’re exploring historic buildings, sampling delicious local treats, or simply soaking up the charming atmosphere, Old Town Salou is a treasure trove of delights for the whole family. And don’t forget to snap a selfie with the iconic fountain.

Old town Salou is one of our family favourites when it comes to visiting this beautiful little city. It’s full of lovely little shops and bars where you get to know some of the most thoughtful and kind people who work in Salou. One of our treasured memories from this trip was when we found a lovely English bar called ‘The Barrels’. The bartender working in this pub was the nicest man and made us feel incredibly welcome. We also had many lovely strolls through the town and made cherished memories as a family.
